By every standard and measure the year 2009 will be historically recorded as one of the most complex and difficult periods for the world and the United States in particular. The reasons/causes/explanations are numerous and diverse.

Perhaps, if we set aside the blame and the excuses, we would gain more insight by looking back on a macro-level for the way forward.

Our opinion at Trendl Associates, Ltd is that what continues to take place is an as yet unclear shift in the overall structure of the economy. It is probably on a scale of the shift from agrarian economies to industrial-based; then industrial to service-based; service to????-based. We don’t yet know.

Not a parallel to the French Revolution but as an allegory, Dickens’ “A Tale of two Cities”…..’It was the best of times, it was the worst of times’; where we are undergoing a difficult period of strife, confusion, upheaval now; and it will ultimately lead to a clarity and prosperity.

The United States is in a struggle to reinvent itself. It’s a struggle between change and the status quo. It is going to be profound change and that change process is going to be messy.

Change has been the mantra of Trendl Associates, Ltd since our inception in 2002. We felt then as we do now, that embracing change always leads to a positive outcome. Personally or corporately, fight it at your peril. The road is never smooth and it takes a steel will and a positive mindset; a willingness to try.

There are no answers to be found on this page. Merely the reassurance that no matter how difficult the times are now, they will change; things will get better.

Now is the time to build, re-tool for the future; it is true corporately and personally.

There are no bad ideas and the old rules no longer apply. Change is a wide-open avenue begging to be driven.

In this time of epic change globally, all it takes is a willingness to step forward and build for the next evolution. The smart money is already quietly moving forward. The smart money is using the current confusion to its advantage to grow and build for the future.

Embrace the current climate of change for your benefit; deny it at your demise. Follow the lead of the smart money, reinvent yourself or your company---change it for the future.
